Coming Home

On 4/7 Paul found and purchased his birthday gift, a 1965 Triump Spitfire MK2. When we originally purchased it, we were told it was a 1967, but by doing some research on the commission number, we discovered it was #2361 off the line in 1965.

We made plans to pick it up the weekend of his birthday, Easter weekend. To save on costs (and the headache Uhaul was giving us about hitches), we decided to rent a 7' x 17' uhaul truck to bring her home in. We stopped at home depot, purchased some tie down rope, a couple of 2x10 boards, and off to Ocala we drove!

When we got there, Bob had her stored on top of 2' tall wood blocks, so those ramps and his wench made it very easy to get her in the truck. Within an hour, we were back on our way home to see what we bought fully.

Of course, never let it be said that the best laid plans... well, the pictures will show how those work. Take my word for it, uphill driveway, uhaul truck, small cars, and 8' long boards do NOT make a great combination. We ended up high-centering her on the boards at the edge of the truck as she was half-way out the car. Lucky for us, one of our neighbors (after laughing himself totally silly) brought over his tow truck and lifted the entire front of the uhaul. This had her down in a jiffy!

Here are the pictures of her (still unnamed) as we picked her up and got her home.
